For the Love of Free: Online Games
Sometimes, having to write a blog can be tough because of the research and time it takes to make sure you aren’t throwing a bunch of fudd out on the Internet. However, there are definitely exceptions to the rule and this is one of those. I had to look around and play some games on the inter-webs in order to really understand what I was going to talk about. It was tough research.
There are many different sub-markets within the gaming industry, but I’m going to talk about those that live and breathe online and are those quick, fun games that tend to be addicting. In fact, these are the types of games that have been written about improving overall cognitive thinking and helping the old stay sharp. There are some good resources out there for games like this, and you’re probably using some now that you didn’t even know had free games. Let’s dive in.
Facebook Games – Games in the App Center
Facebook is the social media cornerstone still to this day. With nearly 1.25 billion active daily users, you can imagine that there’s a lot of people playing games on there too. In fact, there are now over 3,000 different game titles on Facebook, and over 250 million daily game users. WOW! Most all of the games on Facebook are FREE to play. Granted, at some point you are going to be bombarded by the games developers to pay for some crystals, coins or tickets so that you can advance further and further, but in most cases you can play for free without paying anything. For me, once I get to a point where I HAVE TO pay for something, I’m done with the game and on to another on of the other 2,999 titles. If you truly fall in love with Facebook Gaming (or Zynga), and you really want some “pay-to-play” content, have someone buy you a Facebook Gift Card for your birthday, or whatever.
Nickelodeon Addicting Games
Talk about a website that you can lose yourself in. Addicting Games is the largest source of the best free online games including funny games, flash games, arcade games, dress-up games, internet games, shooting games, word games, RPG games, racing games, and much more. Many of the games are free online games! Thousands of choices from some of the best developers around, like Armor Games, Games2Win, and even yours truly, Addicting Games! If you’re ready to start playing right now, simply choose from the following categories: Action, Sports, Puzzle & Board, Shooting, Arcade & Classic, Strategy, Adventure, Life & Style, & NewsGames. For those that have websites or run their own blogs, they even let you embed games as well. Super cool.
Pogo and Big Fish Games
These game sites are a little different. Sure, they are free, but their memberships tend to offer advantages that benefit those online gamers that want a consistent home. With Pogo, there are lots of free puzzle, word, card and board games to play. Big Fish Games is the same. I actually have a membership to Big Fish Games so that I can get discounted games that I really enjoy. Big Fish has expanded their selection lately, and in doing so has added a lot of games that are hidden object and strategy types. You can always go the free route with these two companies as well, and you’ll still get more out of them than you paid for (which, if you remember, is free).
That’s it for this week. It was tough doing the research for this one, but someone has to do it. Oh, and , don’t spend too much time playing games… there is work to be done too.
